It wasn't for reading but for sleeping, but I feel it's appropriate. I had a roommate in college who would try to sleep while myself and another friend were up all night laughing. To get us to stop, he politely grunted loudly, made a show of turning over, then stomped out of bed. It succeeded only in making us louder. But myself and my roommate are best friends to this day. I guess there is something to it.
