Laydown Lowdown

It's hard to believe that is the first Tuesday in August!  Just where is the summer going?  It is flying by way to fast for my liking.  If you haven't had a chance to hit the beach yet or are settling in for a staycation, you may want to check out some of today's new reads.

Best-Selling author Karen Robards is sure to to turn up the heat and keep your pulse pounding with her latest romantic suspense novel, "The Last Victim."  Other new releases in Romance include "Cherished," by Maya Banks, "Sweet Talk," by Julie Garwood, "Time Untime," by Sherilyn Kenyon and "Dream Lake," by Lisa Kleypas.

Or perhaps you'd like to chill out with a cool mystery such as "A Foreign Country," by Charles Cumming, "Bad Little Falls," by Paul Doiron, or "Line of Fire," by Stephen White.

Rita Mae Brown strays from her cozy mystery roots with a new Sneaky Pie Brown collaboration, "Sneaky Pie for President."  Mystery readers know that Rita writes an entire series of mysteries with and about her super sleuth cat Sneaky Pie.  This time around though Sneaky Pie has his eyes set on the Oval Office and the only mystery appears to be how a cat got on the ballot.

Shifting over to Sci-Fi/Fantasy, you may want to escape with "Star Wars X-Wing #10: Mercy Kill," by Aaron Allston, "King of Thorns," by Mark Lawrence, or Neal Stephenson's latest, "Some
 Remarks."

And time is winding down to catch up on your YA before school starts.  Perhaps, "Carter's Unfocused One Track Mind," by Brent Crawford may be up your alley?  Other YA new releases today include "Girl of Nightmares," by Kendra Blake, "Rift," by Andrea Cremor, and "Throne of Glass," by Sara J. Maas.

And that is your Laydown Lowdown for the first week of August.  What are you guys reading these days?   Remember to support your local bookstores whenever possible.  Happy Reading!

On the romance side, of note today (at least to me! :) ) is the new Breeds novel by Lora Leigh - Stygian's Honor, and a new Celta novel from Robin D. Owens - Heart Secret.

Have you read Lora Leigh's books about "The Club"? And if so, what did you think of them? I'm wondering if I'd like it.
